India, not Pakistan, present in Afghanistan, says Fazl

ISLAMABAD: Maulana Fazlur Rehman of JUI-F said on Monday that foreign policy had failed as there was presence of India in Afghanistan not Pakistan because Islamabad had not good relations with Kabul.

He said that foreign policy always revolved round national interests saying that the United States did not trust Pakistan because its policies were getting support from the masses. He also regretted that Pakistan was also not enjoying good relations with Afghanistan. “The United States do not trust us and that is why instead of Pakistan, there is presence of India in Afghanistan,” he said.

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly in response to the policy statement by Minister for Defence Khurram Dastgir, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that according to policymakers in Pakistan, the meaning of isolation was that the United States and the western world was not with the country. “But isolation means that we are not in good relations with neighbouring countries,” he said.

Fazlur Rehman said that China would support Pakistan in the economic sector but it would never defend the country when it came to difficult time for it. However, he said that China which decided to hugely invest in CPEC project was also worried about political crisis in Pakistan.

Sahibzada Tariqullah of Jamaat-i-Islami and Sheikh Salahuddin of MQM said the Defence Minister should review his policy statement. They said that policy guidelines should be taken from Parliament and recommendations of two houses should also be implemented. Mahmood Khan Achakzai said the sovereignty of Afghanistan should be respected.
