44,000 IDP families have been registered: Brigadier Aftab

BANNU: Military and civilian officials briefed the media on the situation of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Officials said IDPs arriving at camps had been provided meals and medical treatment free of cost.

Brigadier Aftab told the media that 44,000 IDP families had been registered while providing details of aid distributed. He added that the army’s Ramzan package had been distributed to 90% of people in Bannu, DI Khan and Lakki Marwat. According to Brigadier Aftab those who had received the Ramzan package could now contact the army for the Eid package.

Brigadier Mukktar said people who had left North Waziristan were their guests adding that the civil administration had provided help on an immediate basis. Meanwhile, Brigadier Khalid said the government had provided electricity in IDP camps. He added that parks and recreational activities were being setup for children while sports equipment would also be provided. The brigadier further said a vocational training centre would be established for women.

Commissioner Bannu informed the media that over Rs30 million had been distributed among the IDPs and more counters had been set up for the registration process.

Over half a million people from North Waziristan have fled following the launch of Operation Zarb-e-Azb against terrorists.
