Son of another former SC top judge resigns
*Mustafa Ramday quits as acting advocate general of Punjab*Several petitions were pending against him in courts

LAHORE: Punjab Acting Advocate General Mustafa Ramday resigned from the post on Friday which he had been holding for the last one year.
Ramday is the son of former judge of Supreme Court Khalilur Rehman Ramday and nephew of LHC judge Justice Muhammad Yawar. The Punjab government had appointed him as an additional advocate general and given him acting charge of advocate general Punjab in July last year. The appointment raised many questions, with a lot of criticism from the legal community, which termed it a case of pure nepotism, arguing that Ramday was not qualified for the post. Under Article 140 of the constitution the required qualification for the post of advocate general is equal to that of a judge of a high court.
The age limit for a high court judge is 45 years, whereas Ramday’s age was far less than the constitutionally required age. At the time of Mustafa Ramday’s appointment several petitions were filed against him in the high court. While hearing the petitions against different orders issued by Ramday as acting AG, a full bench of the LHC had directed the government to appoint a permanent AGP within 15 days.
