Army chief Sharif visits North Waziristan

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif visited troops on the front lines in North Waziristan Agency on Monday.

According to an ISPR press release, the army chief was given a detailed briefing by General Officer Commanding on the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb. General Sharif spoke with valiant troops in the middle of the operation in Miranshah and lauded them for their courage, dedication and high state of morale while expressing satisfaction over the progress achieved so far since start of the operation.

The army chief commended the entire chain of command for their determined efforts in planning, preparation, mobilisation and execution of the operation.

General Raheel Sharif once again emphasised on the officers and men to eliminate all local and foreign terrorists and their sanctuaries. Alluding to the end objective, the COAS affirmed that terrorists will be chased and hunted down across the country till their final elimination.

He acknowledged and appreciated the support of the entire nation and vowed that Inshallah with unflinching national resolve and clear direction, we will accomplish our mission and rid Pakistan of the scourge of terrorism. He specially paid rich tributes to Shuhada and wounded.

Paying tribute to IDPs for their sacrifices to restore writ of the state, COAS acknowledged the national spirit and support was forthcoming for them from across the country. He re-affirmed that Army will not abandon tribal brethren in their hour of need and all possible assistance will be rendered to the government and various organizations in bringing them maximum relief.

COAS also assured of Army’s role in rebuilding and restoring normalcy in the restive North Waziristan Agency.

Earlier on his arrival at Miranshah, COAS was received by Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani, Corps commander Peshawar.
