Long march: nothing to worry for govt: Fazl

MULTAN: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman said on Monday that public demonstrations and protests are fundamental rights of the people and the government should not be afraid of them. Speaking to media representatives, he however added that there should have been another date for the protest rallies of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) instead of August 14 - the Independence Day of Pakistan. Fazlur Rehman said that his party has also been a part of several “million marches”, but such protests do not bear fruit. He said that anti-US mindset in the country cannot be changed as long as “we are called an ally of America”. He said that claiming that the country is not part of the global “war on terror” while getting funds under the Coalition Support Fund is a contradiction. “Pakistan cannot call it an internal affair until it stops taking foreign money,” he said, adding, “We need to get out of these contradictions.” The JUI-F chief emphasised the need for an uninterrupted democratic system in the country, questioning why democracy has always been portrayed as a “failed experiment.”
