Imran questions Shahbaz reception by KP governor

ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan Monday questioned as to why Punjab Chief Minister was being received by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor against all protocol norms. He pointed out that when the KP CM visited Punjab the Governor Punjab did not receive him. According to a release issued on Monday, Imran Khan said that the Sharifs were aggravating depravation in smaller provinces by depriving them of their fair share of resources - many of which were originally coming from these provinces. Only recently, Sharjeel Memon of the PPP had protested about the manner Nawaz Sharif’s government was intruding into the affairs of the Sindh government. Chairman Imran Khan also criticised the federal government’s refusal to aid the KP government in the ongoing IDP crisis where 0.9 million IDPs registered themselves in Bannu fleeing the military operation in NWA. This strained resources of the KP government that provided assistance to the IDPs despite its limited capacity. Hospitals are full; doctors and medicines are in short supply and the threat of an epidemic looms at large but the federal government’s focal person is no where to be found on the ground in Bannu. Khan said that it was shameful the federal government failed to provide any assistance to the KP government and was instead creating hurdles by excessive load shedding where the federal government severed electricity to thirty villages around Bannu. “We keep hearing of the federal government releasing money for the IDPs but where is it going? It is certainly not being given to the KP government which is bearing the brunt alone, especially since international aid agencies and NGOs are not permitted to assist the KP government in its relief efforts,” Khan asserted. He added, the situation has turned KP into a calamity-hit zone but the pleas of the KP CM have gone unheard by the centre at a time when it is undergoing a severe humanitarian crisis. One hears that the PM is off for a week to Saudi Arabia at a time when he should be devoting his resources and time to steering the country out of the IDP crisis by giving a visible leadership.
