Plot to attack Prime Minister’s House in Raiwind unearthed
Explosives, bomb making and detonating techniques recovered from militant hideout

LAHORE – Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Zulfiqar Hameed has said that security forces had recovered explosive materials and literature about techniques of making and detonating bombs during a rare targeted armed action against militants in Raiwind area.

Talking to journalists after the completion of 10-hour long armed action, the CCPO said that the killed terrorist was identified as Ahsan Mahboob of Okara district. He also said that the police had already arrested three of his accomplice in an operation in Okara and from where Ahsan Mahboob had been fled and wanted by police since long.

According to security forces, the terrorists were planning to attack the Prime Minister House which is a few kilometres away from the house occupied by the terrorists. Additional Inspector General of Police Sarmad Saeed said that huge cache of ammunition, weapons and explosives were recovered from the hideout.

The owner of the house has also been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated. Acting on a tip off about the presence of militants, police surrounded a residential compound located on Raiwind Road. According to reports, heavy arms were used in the shootout while a blast was also heard amid the intermittent firing.

Despite announcements by the police for four hours, militants refused to surrender or negotiate. It was suspected that the militants had fixed an improvised explosive device inside the house that restricted the movement of the security forces.

The troops fired teargas shells, hurled crackers and hand grenades before entering the house from where the terrorists used heavy weapons against the police, leaving a policeman dead and four others injured. Heavy contingent of police, Elite Force commandos and Rangers were called in to capture the terrorists.
