PPAF, WDD, NFBE join hands to promote gender mainstreaming

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) has signed an agreement with the Women Development Department (WDD) and Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education Department (NFBE) government of Punjab to work for promotion gender mainstreaming within its projects with a focus on empowering women to play a greater role in the socio-economic development of the country.
Under the agreement, PPAF will collaborate in piloting policy-grassroots linkages through supporting networks of women and youth organisations to interact more closely with WDD and Literacy Department and other government entities, documenting lessons and sharing on areas such as social mobilisation strategies, gender mainstreaming strategies, development of networks and information/awareness raising campaigns to better implement provincial laws and policies pertaining to improved gender equality.
PPAF will engage youth volunteers and community institution members from selected districts in the Punjab province who will contact the women and youth at the grassroots level to promote literacy amongst the women groups.
Literacy modules will be provided by the literacy and NFBE department especially designed to cater to the needs of the women groups including awareness raising on gender-based violence, livelihoods, agency of women and limitations and challenges on their role in the public and private domain.
PPAF’s holistic approach to poverty alleviation is aligned closely with Pakistan’s commitment to the Millennium Development Goals. Adopting an integrated, multi-sectoral, community-led, demand-driven strategy, PPAF approach is to develop inclusive, representative, transparent and accountable institutions of the poor. The catalytic role of women in programme design, delivery and impact is the core of all interventions, while social inclusion, political mainstreaming and empowerment of women form the bedrock of change and transformation by PPAF.
