SC reinstates Hajj Policy 2014

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday annulled the Lahore High Court (LHC) decision and reinstated the Hajj Policy 2014.

The case was heard by a two member bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk and Justice Dost Muhammad Khosa.

Additional Attorney General Atiq Shah informed the court that the quota for Pakistani Hajjis in 2013 was 179,210. He added that due to the expansion project in Haram Shareef the Saudi government had decreased the quota for Pakistan by 20 percent leading the Pakistani government to decrease the quota of Hajjis for private tour operators by 15,000.

According to the Hajj policy 2014, there was an equal quota for the government and private Hajj operators. The private operators were to be provided an additional quota of 15,000 Hajjis due to last year’s decrease which was declared illegal by the LHC.

The apex court annulled the LHC decision and allowed the additional quota for private tour operators.
