Pakistan can progress only through democracy: PM Nawaz

JEDDAH: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Wednesday said that Pakistan can only make progress if it continued to move forward on the path of democracy.

Talking to Geo News prior to embarking on a journey back to Pakistan from Jeddah, Nawaz Sharif said a common man had also voted in favour of democracy and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, despite having reservations, had also accepted the results.

The PM expressed surprise as to why after a lapse of one full year Imran Khan was raising this issue.

On Imran Khan’s call for the long march on Islamabad on August 14, he said: “What exactly is the agenda of long marchers…what is it that they really want?”

Commenting on Balochistan issue, the Premier said the problems being faced by the province have shown some let up and the situation is now heading towards improvement.

In his meeting with a Saudi delegation, Nawaz Sharif urged the Pakistanis living in Saudi Arabia to dispatch maximum aid to their brothers and sisters rendered homeless in the wake of a major military crackdown on terrorists in North Waziristan.
