LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed that Quaid-e-Azam Solar Power Project (QASPP) should be completed by April 2016 to enable the country to meet energy shortage at the earliest.

He issued the direction while chairing a meeting to review progress of the 900-MW solar power generation project, which is prioritised under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The prime minister was briefed that 50 MW of the project would be completed by August 14, 2015 while a total of 300 MW would be operationalised by December 31, 2015. Zonergy had earlier committed to complete the project by September 2016 but now under the directions of the prime minister, its representative assured that it would be completed by the first week of April 2016, said a press release.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif was also present in the meeting.

Representatives of Zonergy, the Chinese company working on QASPP, MD NTDC and officials from Punjab government attended the meeting.
