Pakistan speaks with ‘one voice’ on Iran nuclear deal: Mushahid

ISLAMABAD/TEHRAN – Senate Committee for Defence Chairman Mushahid Hussain emphasised that the whole Pakistan was in favor of Iran-P5+1 upcoming deal and Pakistan speaks with one voice regarding the final agreement.

In an interview with IRNA on Tuesday, the Senator reiterated that there were no two views about this potential agreement in Pakistan. He stressed the government, the parliament and political forces, everybody here is in favor of Iran’s nuclear deal.

“First of all we are against the use of force, secondly, we are against any discrimination or double standards against Iran, and thirdly, we feel any just and equal settlement on Iran nuclear issue would be good for the peace and stability in the region. So I don’t think there are two views on that, whether they are people of Pakistan, the government or the parliament,” he said.

The parliamentarian said that any agreement between Iran and P5+1 should be welcomed as it is important for stability and regional peace. The Senate chairman said that Iran nuclear issue has been lingering on for past many years but this time both the sides seem to be just few steps to reach a final agreement.

“I hope a comprehensive agreement will be signed by Iran and P5+1 because this agreement would then help to defuse tension between Iran and the West and it would also, in my view, contribute to resolution of issues that we are facing whether it is Afghanistan, whether it is Iraq or Syria,” he said.

The politician viewed that this agreement is something that everyone is looking forward to and it should be welcomed.

Expressing his views, the Senator said this was an age where dialog, contact, communication was the need of the hour and nobody could live in an isolation and you could not talk of sanctions. “We welcome Cuban-American relations similarly we would also welcome normalization of Iran-American relations because that is the need of the hour,” he opined.

The lawmaker said that Iran and P5+1 are looking for a win-win deal which would serve the interests of both the sides. “Iran seeks lifting of sanctions after finding of any agreement and P5+1 want Iran to renounce nuclear weapons as Iran has promised publically so if both the sides stick to this position I think it will be win-win for both the sides,” he viewed.
