NGOs data to be regulated within three months: Chaudhry Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday said the office of 'Save The Children' was sealed on the advice of Economic Affairs Division for three weeks.

Speaking in response to a calling attention notice regarding a ban on 'Save the Children,' the minister said international NGOs are not under the Interior Ministry. “We only give security clearance to NGOs."

He said almost one thousand people involved in activities against the country came to Islamabad in the garb of NGOs.

Nisar Ali Khan said two international NGOs were banned in Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan. He said both the NGOs were registered in Africa while US, European Union, India and Israel were assisting them.

“We will not allow anybody to act against interest of the country,” he said.

The minister said data related to NGOs would be regulated within the next three months.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said thousands of foreigners were issued Pakistani identity card and passports in the past, but now those ID cards and passports would not be verified.

He said 4 million foreigners were living in Pakistan, adding that the government was trying to bring illegal settlers into the sphere of law.
