China supports Afghan peace talks with Taliban

ISLAMABAD: While commenting on a meeting between Afghan government and Afghan Taliban, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson has said the Chinese side always supported the “Afghan-led and Afghan-owned” reconciliation process. “China encourages and supports the government of Afghanistan to have peace talks with Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan, and always maintains close contact with the concerned parties”, a statement issued by Chinese embassy on Wednesday quoted him as saying. He said that Chinese side speaks positively of this meeting, adding China holds that this meeting is conducive to promoting peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan. The spokesman said, “China appreciates the flexible attitude and collective willingness for convening this meeting to advance the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan”.
