Joint statement only basis for talks: India

NEW DELHI: Hours after National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz said that no dialogue can be held without Kashmir on agenda, India dismissed the statement, claiming that the “joint statement between the two countries is the core of our ties”. New Delhi said that anyone can speak anything but the basis of the talks is the joint statement. Addressing a press conference on the meeting between the two prime ministers along the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Ufa, Russia, Sartaj Aziz said, “We need more evidence on Mumbai attack trial.” Dismissing Aziz’s statement, India said that the security and safety of the country is important but no one should take them for granted. Hitting out at Pakistan, Indian Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said, “Pakistan attitude shows that they are trying to fool us. It raises question why they are refusing to take audio samples of Lakhvi. According to the new law, which was introduced in 2013 in Pakistan, it permits to take voice samples of terrorists. Now what is the problem? It simply indicates that they don’t want to take voice sample of Lakhvi.”
