Pakistan not accepts Indian sweets at Wagha: report
Unnamed BSF official claims Indian force did not offer Eid sweets to Rangers

LAHORE/CHANDIGARH – Pakistan Rangers refused to accept sweets from their Indian counterparts – the Border Security Force – at the Wagha border on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr amid escalating hostilities at the de-facto border areas in the disputed territory, TV channels reported on Saturday.

Border Security Force officials said that a message to the Pakistan Rangers for the annual exchange of Eid greetings did not meet with a response. “We give sweets on Eid every time. The rangers have not accepted it today. We always want to maintain ‘peace and tranquility’ on the border,” the report quoted BSF Deputy Inspector General MF Farooqui as saying.

The Rangers and the BSF have been following a tradition of exchanging sweets on festivals at the international border along the Wagha-Attari border in Lahore-Amritsar in Punjab and on the Working Boundary area.

The Press Trust of Indian quoted an unnamed BSF commander as saying that the force did not offer Eid sweets along the border to the Rangers as a mark of protest against what he said the ongoing spate of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control and the Working Boundary.

In a tweet, ISPR Director General Major General Asim Bajwa said that the Indian forces violated ceasefire at the Line of Control again on Saturday. “This pattern shows they resort to such violations every festive occasion. Ironic they violate and also accuse,” he said.
