NEW DELHI: US Assistant State Secretary for South and Central Asia, Nisha Desai Biswal on Friday said the latest round of talks between India and Pakistan on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Ufa is a welcome move.

Biswal is on a two-day visit to New Delhi spanning over July 16-17, to hold consultations with the Indian officials in order to set the agenda for the upcoming inaugural edition of India-US Strategic and Commercial Dialogue.

“We were pleased to see that the two leaders had an opportunity to meet in Ufa and the statement that they made, speaks for itself and we welcome that,” said Biswal.

Biswal said that the US was hopeful about the relation between the two countries.

India-US Strategic and Commercial Dialogue, which was decided upon in January during the visit of US President Barack Obama, seeks to deepen the economic and commercial ties between the two nations. It would be held in September in Washington and would be co-chaired by US Secretary of State John Kerry and Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker. However, the dates for the conclave are yet to be finalised.

The Indian delegation would be led by Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
