Rabbani assumes charge as acting president

ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani assumed the responsibilities of the acting president upon his return from Saudi Arabia after performing Umrah, on Monday.

"The Chairman Senate has arrived in the morning after performing the Umrah and has taken charge as the acting president," a press release issued by the Senate secretariat said.

Meanwhile, the acting president expressed grief and sorrow over the damages caused by recent flood in Chitral and sympathized with the affected families. He directed all the departments concerned to extend all possible assistances to the flood-affected families.

He strongly condemned the bomb attack in the Iraqi city of Baghdad. He said that terrorism was an international issue and that it should be eliminated with coordinate and united efforts, to protect lives and property of the people.

Expressing sympathy with the citizen of Iraq, he said “we are standing by the people of Iraq in the hour of grief.”

Rabbani took charge as acting president after President Mamnoon Hussain left for Umrah but he also left for Umrah on June 29. Now he has returned and resumed charge of his responsibilities and will continue to serve as the acting president until the president returns.
