Abdul Sattar Edhi in critical condition, shifted to ventilator

KARACHI: Abdul Sattar Edhi is unwell and is encountering breathing problems due to which he has been shifted to a ventilator, according to his son Faisal Edhi.

He stated that Edhi had been shifted to a ventilator at SIUT after he was having breathing problems.

Addressing a press conference at Edhi Centre in Karachi, Faisal stated that Mr Edhi was not well and that both his kidneys had failed. He revealed that Edhi was hypertensive and was also suffering from kidney failure.

"Edhi sahab has more than one disease," said Faisal Edhi. "We wanted to undertake a kidney transplant for him but due to his age, it was not possible," he added.

He siad that Edhi was 92 years old and that at such an age, kidneys cannot be transplanted or changed. He however, said that there was excellent treatment available for kidneys in Pakistan.

Faisal also revealed that Mr Edhi was encountering trouble during breathing this afternoon and that his condition had deteriorated after his dialysis.

"Mr Edhi has also not been eating for the past 2-3 months due to which he is physically weak," he said.

Faisal Edhi was flanked by Bilquis Edhi. Both were visibly emotional and in tears during the press conference. He urged the nation to pray for Abdul Sattar Edhi's health and prolonged life.
