US asks Pakistan, Afghanistan to collaborate against terrorists

WASHINGTON: Pakistan and Afghanistan should work jointly to eliminate safe havens in border areas between the countries, US State Department spokesperson John Kirby said.

Answering a question, the Department of State spokesperson said that the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan is still a safe haven for many terrorist groups.

He said the US is of the opinion that effort in this regard has not always gone smoothly, and the US continue to urge those two governments to work together along that spine to eliminate the safe haven.

“So there’s a shared interest there, and that’s what we’re focused on. And we’re not focused on lines on the map; we’re focused on lines of the effort to go after these groups by both governments”, the spokesman said while answering a question about US stance on the Durand Line.
