Pakistan asks EU to take notice of chaos in Indian-held Kashmir

Foreign secretary briefs EU envoys on IHK situation

ISLAMABAD: European Union should play its role in ensuring the realisation of human rights of the people of Kashmir, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry told EU ambassadors on Wednesday.

The foreign secretary said there should be no impunity for human rights violations, and underscored the need for a fair and transparent judicial inquiry against the escalating violence in Indian-held Kashmir.

As one of the strongest proponents of human rights, EU should condemn human rights violations in held Kashmir and play its role in ensuring Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday appealed to the people of held Kashmir to maintain calm so that the situation can normalise in the violence-hit disputed territory.

At least 32 people have lost their lives and hundreds injured in the protests triggered by the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.
