ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Wednesday observed black day to show solidarity with the people of Jammu Kashmir against the ongoing Indian oppression in the disputed state.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto said in a statement that his party values the Kashmir cause and it is part of the freedom struggle and shall continue to struggle like “our martyred leaders” until the goal is achieved.

He wore the black arm band to observe the Black Day in protest against the Indian oppression in the valley and showed solidarity with the people of Kashmir.

The PPP chairman also criticised the PML-N government over the announcement to observe July 19 as Black Day as it is already marked as a day of celebrations by the Kashmiris on both sides of the border.

“The government of Pakistan is in a state of bewilderment under the mounting pressures of Kashmir’s elections as well as the Panama Scandal. Out of confusion, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is making illogical decisions,” he said.

The government had first announced 19th July as Black Day and then postponed it to another day due to the mounting pressure by PPP and the people of Kashmir, the statement said.

“Nawaz Sharif seems to be unaware of the historically significant day and his oblivious political aides have caused him embarrassment, giving out an impression that the prime minister is ignorant about the history of his own country,” he said.
