Pakistan demands ban on pellet guns by India in held Kashmir

Islamabad to approach UN for fact finding mission to IHK

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to approach the Human Rights Council of the United Nations to send a fact finding mission to the Indian-held Kashmir for investigating the slaughter of innocent civilians.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the National Security Committee chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif here at the PM Office on Friday.

The meeting demanded ban on the use of pellet guns by the Indian troops in the violence-hit for dispersing people exercising their right to self-determination.

It unanimously called upon the international community to condemn the blatant human rights violations and play their role in ensuring the realisation of human rights of the Kashmiri people through fulfilling its commitments towards the people of Kashmir under the UNSC resolutions.

The meeting unanimously expressed grave concern over the deteriorating situation in the Indian-held Kashmir in the wake of death of indigenous Kashmiri freedom fighter Burhanuddin Muzaffar Wani.

While reiterating his condemnation over the continuous Indian oppression, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that this brutal use of force is a blatant violation of fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people which no civilised society permits.

He said the only plausible solution of the Kashmir issue would be the early implementation of UNSC resolution i.e. a fair and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices.

The meeting reaffirmed its resolve against elimination of terrorism and extremism from the motherland. The meeting appreciated the role of military and civil intelligence agencies against the nefarious designs of non-state actors.

The meeting decided that effective border management system between Pakistan and Afghanistan should be introduced and enforced as it is in the interest of both the countries.

The meeting was attended by the federal ministers Pervaiz Rashid, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Asif, Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, National Security Adviser Nasser Janjua, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman General Rashad Mahmood, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zakaullah, ISI Director General Rizwan Akhtar and senior officials.
