ECP to hear references against PM on August 3

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan will hear the reference against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif regarding the Panama leaks, on August 3.

In a bid to keep pressure on the PML-N government, opposition parties PTI, PPP and PAT had filed a reference with the Election Commission seeking Prime Minister’s disqualification under Articles 62 and 63 for concealing his foreign assets in his nomination forms.

PTI’s move comes a day after the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) hinted at leaving the dialogue process over the terms of teference (TORs) of the Panama Papers probe and instead file graft cases against the Sharif family for keeping offshore holdings as disclosed in the Panama leaks.

In a bid to keep pressure on the PML-N government, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri on Thursday filed with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) a reference seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for allegedly concealing his assets.

According to points mentioned in Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s (PAT) reference, prime minister himself, and his family members in parliament have falsely stated their assets to the ECP in their mandatory filings.

The reference alleges that the act of concealing assets is a ‘treason’ that has put into suspicion the loyalty of PM with the state and the constitution.
