No danger to democracy: Shahbaz
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday that there was no danger to democracy, adding that he would give complete answers at the JIT. He said it should be dug out who withdrew the funds and from which bank.In response to the questions regarding the book of Raymond Davis during a ceremony, the chief minister said his book has made it clear that there was no role of the Punjab govt in his escape. He said he has reported it at the question and answer session back and said the Punjab govt had not paid his diyat (compensation money), and today the book has substantiated his (CM’s) words.
About the incident of Ahmedpur Sharqia, the CM said the families of deceased were provided with a financial assistance of two million rupees per person and injured ones were provided with the best medical treatment. He said there is a lot of wrong talk about missing burn units in Punjab which is not true as the burn unit of Multan is operational, which is the best burn unit in Pakistan and around the globe.
Besides, burn units of Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and other cities are fully operational. Those who blame Punjab are indulging in politics of impeachment. They do not have any burn unit in their own province whereas all the big cities of the Punjab are equipped with the latest burn units.
Meanwhile, talking to a delegation led by Cao Peixi that called on him, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said solid foundation for cooperation has been laid between Pakistan and China through the Sahiwal Coal Power Plant.
China Huaneng Group Chairman Cao Peixi said the Sahiwal Coal Power Plant is an innovator in world power sector, as completion of a 1,320 megawatts production capacity power plant within a record period of 22 months is a record.
Royal Energy Group China Chairman Qiu Yafu and other senior officials were also present. CHG Chairman congratulated Shahbaz and his team on the completion of 1,320 MW Sahiwal coal power project. He said the dream of completion of this project couldn't be achieved without the help of Shahbaz Sharif.
He said solid foundation for cooperation has been laid between Pakistan and China through this project. He said Shahbaz has made it possible to finish this venture in record time-frame. Shahbaz has played the role of an ideal leader and he is confident that people of Pakistan along with Punjab will always remember his wonderful role. “Our investment experience in Punjab has been very pleasant and we will continue this cooperation in Pakistan especially Punjab."
Speaking on this occasion, the chief minister said the Sahiwal project is a masterpiece of
hard work. He said cooperation of China's companies is commendable. Due to extensive work, the project has been completed in a 22-month record period, which is a milestone and it has set another record of transparency and high standard, he added. Shahbaz said public has got relief as this project has reduced loadshedding for which Pakistan is thankful to China.Meanwhile, an agreement was signed under the public-private partnership between the Department of Construction and Communication, Punjab government, and Shajar Roads for construction of double road of Sheikhupura and Gujranwala Road. Shahbaz was a guest of honor of this signing ceremony held in Model Town. The agreement says that Sheikhupura, Gujranwala Road will be made two ways within a year.
Addressing the function, Shahbaz said this agreement has been done on the BOT basis under the public private partnership and it will cost almost 06 billion rupees on a road of 43-km length. Private sector earns profit under this partnership and public gets facilities.
Although, the time stipulated for the completion of this project is 30 June 2018 but “I have directed the concerned departments to complete it by 30 April,” he added. The CM said the govt has initiated construction of rural roads and 67 billion rupees had already been spent on it. He said construction of asphalt roads has improved the infrastructure of rural areas. Likewise, the nature of this progressive venture is praiseworthy and current fiscal has allocated 70 billion rupees for the construction of rural roads, he added.
