JIT investigation would be incomplete without Qatari statement: Kirmani

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Special Assistant to Prime Minister Dr Asif Kirmani said that if the joint investigation team (JIT) did not record the statement of Qatari prince it would be murder of justice on Tuesday.

Talking to media outside Federal Judicial Academy, Kirmani said that without recording the statement of Qatari prince the investigation of Panama JIT would be incomplete. He said that they were not seeking immunity rather justice. He added that the Qatari prince had invited the JIT to record his statement in Qatar or sent him questionnaire so he could respond.

However, he claimed that the JIT rejected his appeal. He quoted the case of former CJP Iftikhar Chaudhary's son Dr Arsalan Iftikhar. He added that in Arsalan case the Supreme Court had ordered to send questionnaire but the same was not being done in the instant case.

He added that they were seeking justice from the apex court that should not only be done but seen to have been done. He added that Sharif’s family was not demanding any favour from the apex court except dispensation of justice.

He also criticized Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, saying that Imran was telling strange stories. He added that Imran and company were misleading the masses. When asked to respond to reports that a JIT member will be proceeding to Doha on July 6 to record the prince's statement, he said "we will cross that bridge when we reach it".

Referring to Imran Khan’s tweet on Monday showing ruling party members celebrating the April 20 judgment, he said Imran had created an impression that the Supreme Court would disqualify the premier but the bench formed a JIT instead. "This is why the people celebrated," he explained.
