PPP can use all options including resignations: Bilawal

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday said that they could use all options including resignation from parliament. He said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman would soon quit the government.

He reiterated the demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif saying that the premier had lost the moral and legal grounds to remain in power and his resignation would be in the larger interest of the country as well as for stability of democracy.

“We wanted the resignation of the prime minister on the basis of the report of Joint Investigation Team and it is not only must for the stability of democracy in the country but also for ending the conspiracy theories,” he said while speaking at the “Meet the Press’ programme at the National Press Club here on Monday.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was accompanied by PPP Secretary General Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari, Vice President PPP Parliamentarians Senator Sherry Rehman, Secretary General PPP Parliamentarians Senator Farhatullah Babar, former deputy speaker National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi and PPP Punjab Information Secretary Mustafa Nawaz Kokhar.

President National Press Club Shakil Anjum presented a shield to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The PPP chairman did not see any conspiracy against the government and questioned if there was any conspiracy, the PML-N should tell what kind of conspiracy was being hatched against democracy. “The prime minister should immediately resign to end the conspiracy theories and there would be no threat to democracy with the resignation of the prime minister,” he said.

To a question about the stance of JUI-F Maulana Fazlur Rehman in support of the prime minister which he expressed in his recent statement, Bilawal replied that he did not read the statement of Maulana Fazal but said demand for the resignation of the prime minister had now become the voice of the nation and in coming days Maulana Fazlur Rehman and other government allies would change their stance.

Asked about the option if the prime minister did not resign, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said all the options were open before them and if the government did not accept supremacy of the law, the option of street agitation would also be adopted. "The public will be informed of the party's next step in case he does not resign," he said.

In reply to another question regarding the accountability, the PPP chairman said the PPP was real victim of the accountability as the party faced victimisation. “Everyone knows how Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed faced the courts of law and was roaming around one court to another with her children. “My father has spent 11 years in jails in the name of accountability and if it is still wanted, I am ready for the accountability,” he added.

To a question, he said the PPP was formulating new manifesto based on social, democratic, progress and the PPP would win the next elections. “Recently, the PPP won the by-elections in Karachi and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The PPP chairman expressed solidarity with the journalist community and said that he would put forth the demand for legislation for protection of journalists. Appreciating the role of journalists in safeguarding the human rights and struggle against the dictatorship, Bilawal Bhuuto Zardari said the journalists had rendered sacrifices for the rule of law, struggled against the dictatorship and for the human rights. He said more than 100 journalists sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

He said the PPP had serious concerns over the delay in the Right to Information Bill as it seemed that the government was not serious in legislation in this regard.

Meanwhile, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that people of Parachinar suffered cruelty of the worst kind and the PPP, when in power, would provide justice to the families of martyrs of Parachinar and culprits would be brought to book and punished according to law.

He said this while talking to parliamentarians from Fata including Sajid Hussain Turi, Shahji Gul Afridi, Malik Inayat Hussain and Malik Mudassir Hussain. The PPP chairman said that party stand was very clear regarding Fata and country would be strengthened if the Fata reforms were implemented.

He asked Sajid Hussain Turi to convey his message of love and compassion to his constituents. He also prayed for the martyrs. PPP leaders from KP also called on Chairman Bilawal including Azam Afridi, Rahim Dad Khan and Ayub Shah. Engineer Humayun Khan, Faisal Karim Kundi and Jamil Soomro were also present on the occasion.
