ISLAMABAD: The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has floated a proposal seeking Rs 3 billion for up-gradation of 200 schools in the federal capital under the Prime Minister’s Education Reforms Programme (PMERP).

Under this programme the up-gradation of some schools had already been carried out with starting of Montessori classes in five schools. This project will lead to the up-gradation of 200 schools in urban and rural areas with construction of additional rooms, computer labs and equipment.

FDE Director General Dr Shahnaz A Sheikh said that concrete steps were being taken to make Islamabad a city of knowledge and a role model for other educational institutions in the country. “As many as 22 educational institutions have been turned into models for others in terms of additional facilities under the PMERP,” she added that a plan was underway to equip the rest of the schools with all facilities.
