Ex-PM Shaukat Aziz launches memoir
LONDON: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shaukat Aziz, launched his political memoir "From Banking to the thorny world of Politics".
At the launch event, Shaukat Aziz disclosed that he had never met General (retired) Pervaiz Musharraf until the general had called him on phone and asked him to join his government.
"Before that I was a banker, which was a very difficult job," he said.
Shaukat Aziz was at first a Finance Minister who then went on to become Pakistan's Prime Minister during the Musharraf era. Shaukat Aziz details what life was like for him at the time when he was the Prime Minister of one of the most challenging countries to govern. He also details in his book how he dealt with then British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Donald Rumsfeld and General Jones.
The book is co-authored by Sunday Times journalist Anna Mikhailova.
Shaukat Aziz succeeded Zafarullah Khan Jamali to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2004-2007. During his time in office, the country underwent turmoil internally due to the Lal Masjid episode as well as the Lawyer's Movement, which ultimately led to General Musharraf's ouster from power.
