ISLAMABAD: As budget speech nears, stakeholders are of the view that the government should allocate more resources to the agriculture sector, which is crucial to the development of Pakistan’s economy.

Economist Dr Shahid Hassan Siddiqui, however, is of the view that the actual agriculture target achieved by the government, at 3.3 per cent, for the fiscal year (2015-2016) is “satisfactory”.

Talking to a private TV channel, he said the incumbent government is also giving top priority to improve the industrial sector in order to improve exports.

"The economic indicators are showing positive trend as a result of prudent policies of the incumbent government. Government has achieved its target of GDP growth," he added.

Replying to a question, he said foreign reserves have significantly increased as compared to past. The government has initiated a number of energy projects and vowed to eliminate load-shedding till 2018, he added.
