ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain stressed, on Friday, the need for an education system in the right direction so that the new generation can be prepared to effectively address the challenges of the contemporary world.

He said this while addressing the 31st award- distribution ceremony of Federal Board of Education and Secondary Education (FBISE), at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. He also remarked, “responsible nations take a mindful and refined approach in the upbringing of their children, and guide them towards the right direction.” President Hussain said that it was the joint responsibility of the State, teachers and parents to devise an educational system, which was in line with the national objectives. He noted that the element of character-building when combined with the traditional education, could bring very positive results, and would also save the children from falling into despondency. He called upon the educational boards to continue giving their feedback to the concerned ministries and departments so that necessary amendments in the syllabus can be made in accordance with the changing times. He also suggested adding chapters about Muslim rulers of the sub-continent in the syllabi, to apprise the new generation of their history.

President Hussain further postulated that in order to achieve progress, nations needed to establish a strong political and economic foothold, adding that Pakistan was making headway in both these fields. He said that Pakistan, in collaboration with its friendly neighbour, China, was working on building an economic corridor. He also termed the US $46 billion project as a “fate-changer for the entire region”. “This economic corridor is closely related to the future of our nation,” he added.

The President was of the view that the project would require experts and professionals for its full operationalization, and, hence, called upon the youth to get educated in the related fields. He said that higher education was very important in attaining progress in life, and also encouraged the female students to pursue education. “Unless the girls join the national workforce, the journey of success will remain incomplete,” he added. However, he also asked these students to never forget their national traditions and Islamic values in the pursuance of their educational goals. He congratulated the position-holder students and asked them to always be respectful to their parents and teachers, to whom they owed their success.

Speaking on the occasion about the performance of the Board, the Minister of State for Education, Engineer Balighur Rehman, said that the FBISE had been working since 1975, and was the only ISO-certified board of the country. He said that FBISE had been made into a computerised institution, which now provided a one-window facility to students, and issued roll number slips through the internet, in a hassle-free manner. He also mentioned that another project worth Rs. 50 million had also been launched to train the personnel responsible for holding the examinations. Chairman FBISE, Dr Ikram Ali Malik, also highlighted the working of the FBISE in his welcome remarks.Earlier, President Mamnoon had also conferred medals on the distinguished students.
