Despite govt promises, many cities remained without electricity at Sehri time
KARACHI/PESHAWAR: Despite the federal government's promise that load-shedding would not take place in the country at times of Sehr and Iftar, many cities from Karachi to Peshawar remained without electricity at Sehri time.
According to details, many areas of Karachi, Okara, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Multan and Sialkot were without electric power at the time of Sehr, when people got up to have food before dawn for the very first fast of this year.
On the other hand, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Water and Power claimed that unannounced load-shedding was not taking place in the country. In Karachi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal's block 3, 4 and 13-D experienced unannounced load-shedding whereas in Peshawar, people woke up to have their pre-fast meal without electricity, in the areas of Gulberg block 1, 2 and 3.
The situation remained the same in Punjab's Multan, Faisalabad, Okara and Sialkot cities, which were without electricity at the time of Sehri. According to a FESCO spokesperson, a technical failure in Thar Mill power transformer caused five feeders to trip. This caused disruption in the supply of electricity to most parts of Faisalabad.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the ministry of Water and Power has claimed that electricity was being supplied to 85% rural areas and 97% urban areas. K-Electric also denied that unannounced load-shedding was taking place anywhere in Karachi.
People in Pakistan observed their first fast of the year 2016 on Tuesday, after the moon had been sighted on Monday evening.
