Power generation has reached 17076 MW for the first time: Water and Power Ministry

ISLAMABAD: Spokesperson for the Ministry of Water and Power stated that for the very first time in the history of Pakistan, power generation had reached 17120 MW.

In a series of statements, the office of the Ministry of Water and Power said that the previous year, 16866 MW had been recorded as the level of power generation in the country. Secretary of Water and Power himself is overseeing the situation from the ministry's monitoring room, said the spokesperson.

"Today, 85 percent of Pakistan's rural areas and 95 percent of its urban areas did not experience load-shedding at the time of Iftar," read the statement from the spokesperson of the Ministry of Water and Power.

On Tuesday, when Pakistanis were bracing for their very first fast of 2016, many cities experienced load-shedding from Karachi to Peshawar at the time of Sehri.

It is pertinent to mention that the Ministry of Water and Power had earlier promised that load-shedding would not take place at times of Sehri and Iftar, so as not to disturb fasting citizens.
