ISLAMABAD: As part of the country's continuing diplomatic efforts towards mobilizing support for Pakistan's application for the membership of Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz spoke over telephone with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

On Wednesday, the adviser also contacted foreign ministers of New Zealand Murray McCully and Republic of Korea Yun Byung-se over phone to highlight Pakistan's credentials for the NSG membership with a view to seek their support, a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here said. His interlocutors expressed support for a non-discriminatory approach on NSG expansion to non-NPT states.

The Nuclear Suppliers Group is a multinational body concerned with reducing nuclear proliferation by controlling the export and re-transfer of materials that may be applicable to nuclear weapon development and by improving safeguards and protection on existing material. China is opposing India’s membership in the 48-member group.
