Khursheed leaves for London to meet Zardari

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Shah has left for London to meet former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

They are expected to discuss the current persistent deadlock between the opposition and the government over the issue of Terms of References (ToRs) related to Panama Papers allegations. Khursheed Shah is also expected to discuss the country’s political situation with the former president and formulate future strategy for PPP’s political activities too.

The parliamentary committee comprising six members each from the government and the opposition had held five meetings since its first meeting on May 25. The committee was set up to come up ToRs for the proposed inquiry commission after Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali refused the federal government's request to form a judicial commission to investigate the Panama leaks, saying that otherwise it will take years to complete its proceedings with the provided TORs. It was formed for a fortnight’s time, which has not expired and extension will have to be taken for the committee to continue to work towards formulating unanimous ToRs.
