Khawaja Asif should apologize to me by taking my name: Shireen Mazari

ISLAMABAD: PTI's Shireen Mazari spoke on Thursday regarding Khawaja Asif's derogatory remarks yesterday and stated that since she had been singled out and attacked, the federal minister should tender an apology to her by taking her name.

Shireen Mazari said that it was quite evident that Asif had made her the target of his harsh remarks and that if the federal minister had some amount of decency, he would apologize to her by name.

Khawaja Asif stood up in the assembly and said that his speech should be heard again and that if he had uttered the name of any person, then he would readily apologize to the said individual. He then later said that it would be better for all if the issue would be laid to rest and the parliament moved on. PML-N's Ishaq Dar also advised Khawaja Asif to apologize to Shireen Mazari by taking her name but Asif paid no heed.

Earlier, Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq had stated that PML-N's Khawaja Asif had written an apology letter for his harsh words against PTI's Shireen Mazari yesterday.

According to Ayaz Sadiq, Khawaja Asif had written an apology letter in which he apologised for the indiscipline that had been caused by his speech yesterday as well as for his harsh words against PTI's Shireen Mazari.

"I have always tried to run this parliament on justice," said Ayaz Sadiq. "I am a human being, not an angel. I may have also committed mistakes but I would try to learn from them," he added.

Ayaz Sadiq further said that he had spoken to PTI's Shireen Mazari yesterday and told her not to talk about the incident but let him handle it.

Shireen Mazari however, along with other members of PTI, rejected Khawaja Asif's apology letter. MNAs from other opposition parties also rejected Khawaja Asif's apology letter.

PTI members from the National Assembly, including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, called for Khawaja Asif to come to the assembly in person and apologize for his misbehaviour.

"Such incidences make us a laughing stock in front of the whole world," said Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Federal Minister of Water and Power, Khawaja Asif had called Shireen Mazari a 'tracter trolly' yesterday when the latter had protested during the middle of his speech.

PTI as well as other members of opposition parties had all vehemently condemned Khawaja Asif's harsh remarks as Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq had expunged his words from the official record of the assembly.
