NSC concerned over Indian atrocities against Kashmiris

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of National Security Committee (NSC) on Wednesday expressed serious concern over the atrocities by Indian forces against innocent people of Jammu and Kashmir and resolved to continue its moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris.

The meeting of the NSC was chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the PM’s Office, a statement said. The NSC deliberated upon overall internal and external security situation of the country, besides discussing situation on the Eastern and Western borders.

The committee also expressed satisfaction over the sustained gains achieved from anti-terrorism operations, particularly Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad, while security for CPEC projects also came under discussion.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Minister for Planning & Development Ahsan Iqbal, Adviser to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, ISI Director General Lt General Naveed Mukhtar, FWO Director General Lt General Muhammad Afzal and National Security Adviser Lt Gen (r) Nasser Khan Janjua.

Earlier, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa called on the prime minister and discussed matters pertaining to operational preparedness of the Pakistan Army. During the meeting, the PM was briefed on the outcomes of ongoing anti-terrorism operation Radd-ul-Fasaad and death penalty issue of RAW agent Kulbhushan Jadhav.

The premier also appreciated the sacrifices rendered by the Pakistan Army in the war against terrorism.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack near diplomatic area in Kabul, resulting in loss of precious lives and injuries to many others.

Pakistan strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Kabul that also caused damage to the residences of some Pakistani diplomats and staff, living in the close vicinity, the Foreign Office said in a statement.

“Pakistan being a victim of terrorism understands the pain and agony that such incidents inflict upon the people and society. The people and government of Pakistan extend their heartfelt sympathies and deepest condolences to the government and the people of Afghanistan and the bereaved families,” the Foreign Office said.

“While reiterating condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, we pray for early recovery of the injured. We firmly stand with our Afghan brothers in this hour of grief and anguish.”
