Pakistan’s ranking has improved in Corruption Perception Index: NAB chairman
by NNI

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry on Thursday said that Pakistan had witnessed improvement by four points from 126th to 122nd position in the Corruption Perception Index 2016-17 as per the Annual Global Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum 2016-17.

He said this during a meeting with Amir Jehangir, the representative of World Economic Forum.

"The country's anticorruption policies are yielding better results and its ranking has been improving for the last three years. NAB officials are putting in their all energies and taking all possible measures to uproot the menace of corruption from the society. As a result of these, the position is improving," he said.

"The Global Competitiveness Index of World Economic Forum will help improve Pakistan's image among the nations. Corruption affects the common man, describing the general public and worst sufferers when the funds supposed to be utilised for their welfare were misappropriated. So, the improvement in Pakistan's ranking will be ultimately beneficial for the common man as the funds meant for their welfare and wellbeing will be utilised for provision of basic facilities including health, education and clean drinking water to them," he said.

"The improvement in Annual Global Competitiveness Report of World Economic Forum 2016-17 will also reflect in Corruption Perception Index of the Transparency International," he said.
