No govt or court can proceed merely on suspicions, says Hussain

Appears before JIT for fifth time

ISLAMABAD: Hussain Nawaz, the elder son of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, on Friday said creating suspicions was a 'satanic act' and if any substantial evidence was available, action should be taken accordingly but no government or court could initiate proceedings merely on the basis of suspicions.

Talking to media persons after his appearance for the fifth time before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), he said: "We have done nothing wrong so no evidence can be found against us."

To a question about his leaked photograph, he said, "Only those who leaked this photograph know why they did it."

When Hussain Nawaz came out of the Federal Judicial Academy where he was interrogated by the JIT for five hours, he told the media that he had appeared before the JIT for the fifth time and keeping in view the nature of questions that were asked on Friday, he never thought that he would be summoned again in near future.

"I don't think now they will call me again in near future but whenever they will issue summons, I will appear before the JIT," he said, adding, "The JIT has not committed to me that it will not call me again so whenever it issues summons, I will appear before it because it is a matter of supremacy of law."

Answering a question, he said they had done nothing wrong, so there was no question of any kind of evidence against them because, "I say if there is an evidence, action should be taken but no action can be taken on the basis of suspicion."

To a question, he said, "I have no plan to contest the general elections and if Hassan Nawaz talked about it with media, it was his personal decision."

He said, "It should be asked from the JIT if it is satisfied with the investigation process because I can't comment over it. As far as the questions are concerned, I have been asked usual questions during the investigation."

"I am thankful to all these party workers who have come here and are showing their love, support and solidarity while observing fast in severe hot weather conditions. I am also thankful to all those people who pray for us at their homes," he said.

Hussain Nawaz also appreciated the services of the media persons stating, "I see the media persons standing in the scorching sun in the month of Ramazan. I appreciate your efforts because you are here to bring the truth to the people of Pakistan."

Meanwhile, the sources said the JIT had duly informed Hussain Nawaz to bring some more documents related to money trail, London Mayfair flats and offshore companies at the time of issuance of summons to him on June 7.

"The elder son of the prime minister not only submitted the relevant documents sought by the JIT but also recorded his statement in response to the questions raised by the JIT members," the sources said.

The sources said that the JIT members asked Hussain Nawaz a series of questions on all those issues that were raised in his previous appearances and thoroughly reviewed the documents so far submitted by him.

They said the issues that also came under the investigation comprised payment made for the London Mayfair flats to Minerva Services by Arrina Company through Barclays Bank, trust deeds related to the offshore companies in British Virgin Islands, business deals between the Sharif family and the Qatari Royal family and alleged money laundering regarding Hudaibiya Paper Mills.
