China offers mediation to defuse Pak-Afghan tensions

BEIJING: China has expressed its desire to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan to minimise tensions.

A statement issued by the office of Afghan President said China wanted to play the mediator’s role to lessen the tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. In this regard, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi would be visiting Kabul very soon to hold meetings with the Afghan officials.

It further said the Chinese foreign minister would be discussing the possibility of holding four nations Coordination Committee meetings which comprises Afghanistan, Pakistan, United States and China. The statement further quoted Afghan President Ashraf Ghani as saying they wanted peace with Pakistan and the issue should be resolved by the governments.
