PM Ashraf orders withdrawal of recent POL price hike


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has ordered withdrawal of recent hike in POL prices after strong public reaction, Geo News reported.

The Prime Minister issued these instructions during a meeting with Minister for Finance Mr Saleem H. Mandviwala in the Prime Minister’s House on Saturday.

It may be noted here that the recent POL prices increase was undertaken by the government when dissolution of the current assemblies was only two weeks away.

With the recent hike, petrol was retailing at 106.60/litre after an increase of Rs. 3.53 while Diesel after a Rs. 4.35/litre increase was at Rs. 113.56.

Sources said, On Friday some federal ministers met President Asif Ali Zardari and apprised him about their reservations over the fresh increase in POL prices before the upcoming elections.

The Prime Minister said Saturday that the incumbent democratic government would not put burden on the masses.

MQM and PML-N had also boycotted proceedings at the National Assembly, over the price hike.
