Upper House terms bombing failure of govt, intel agencies

ISLAMABAD: Terming Sunday’s bomb blast in Karachi total failure of the intelligence agencies, provincial and federal governments, the legislators in Senate on Monday said only debates are held after such attacks.

They noted that whenever such a terrorist incident happens, the legislators hold emotional discussions, stage walkouts and resort to political point-scoring, but regretted that no practical steps are taken to end the menace of terrorism once and for all ever. Terming the Karachi attack an act of barbarism, the senators regretted that the interior minister warns of expected terrorist attacks but never takes appropriate measures to stop them.

They said that in several countries of the world, appropriate measures are taken against terrorism and they had been a success, but in Pakistan the government has never taken the matter seriously. PPP’s Senator Raza Rabbani said there is an international conspiracy against Pakistan, saying the government can stop terrorism if a resolution of the joint session of parliament and parliamentary committee on the matter is implemented.

He further informed the legislators that after the Quetta bomb blasts against the Hazara community, the Australian government had offered to give shelter to the Hazara people and a US congressman’s statement in London conference showed an international conspiracy against Pakistan. He regretted that the Foreign Office was totally silent over these issues. ijaz kakakhel
