Presidential ordinance for FATA’s Senate seats to be annulled
ISLAMABAD: At the luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday, it was decided that the new presidential ordinance on FATA regulations for Senate seats would be annulled with immediate effect.
On the eve of the Senate elections, President Mamnoon Hussain had signed an ordinance, altering the rules to replace the presidential ordinance on FATA regulations issued in 2002. The new ordinance restricted MNAs from FATA to just one vote instead of four votes.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had suspended and then eventually postponed the Senate elections for FATA seats on March 5.
The PM hosted a luncheon at the Prime Minister House for the heads of all political parties today where he announced that the government was ready to back Pakistan People’s Party (PPP-P) candidate Raza Rabbani as Senate Chairman.
The purpose of the luncheon was to progress on further consultations relating to the election of Senate Chairman and Deputy Chairman as well as resolve outstanding issues such as the postponement of Senate elections for FATA seats.
