Pakistan desires stable, cooperative relations with neighbouring countries: PM

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said that building stable and cooperative relations with all countries of the region including Afghanistan was part of his vision of a peaceful neighborhood.

According to a PM house statement, he was talking to Afghan Minister for Refugees and Repatriation Sayed Hussain Alemi Balkhi who called on him here at the PM House. The prime minister said with the change of leadership in Afghanistan the two countries have commenced a historic new phase in their bilateral ties, while agreeing to overcome the past and building a forward-looking relationship based on mutual trust. The prime minister said that Pakistan’s focus was on enhanced political engagement, security and counter-terrorism cooperation, trade and economic partnership and regional cooperation. He termed terrorism a common enemy of the two countries and said it requires common endeavours to defeat it.

He said both the countries have paid a very heavy price of terrorism. He said that the Operation Zarb-e-Azb has broken the back of terrorist network in Pakistan. “We have a commitment not to allow our territories to be used against each other. Pakistan is in favour of an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace and reconciliation process,” he said.
