WASHINGTON – The United States has said that Pakistan was a critical partner in the fight against terror and expressed support for the ongoing Pakistan-India dialogue.

A State Department spokesperson expressed the hope that Pakistan would fulfill its commitment to bring perpetrators of Mumbai attacks to justice. Asked to comment on media reports regarding Islamabad high courts’ orders for release of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the spokesperson said at the moment he remains in prison.

The spokesperson said that the US is monitoring reports regarding an Islamabad high court judge's orders about the release of the alleged mastermind of Mumbai attacks. “The government of Pakistan has pledged its cooperation in bringing the perpetrators, financers and sponsors of the Mumbai terrorist attacks to justice and we hope Pakistan will follow through on that commitment,” Jen Psaki said.

“Pakistan is a critical partner in the fight against terrorism,” she noted. The spokesperson said that she cannot speculate on the outcome of the ongoing legal process.
