Shahbaz records statement before Model Town JIT
CM says he did not give instructions to police or anyone else for use of force

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday has recorded his statement before Joint Investigation Team (JIT) made to probe into Model Town vandalism.

The chief minister recorded his statement before a JIT probing the deadly Model Town shooting incident. The chief minister in his statement clarified that he was unaware of the operation that was carried out against Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) activists and stated that he got to know about the incident the next morning from TV. Shahbaz appeared personally before the JIT to record his statement under oath. The chief minister said that he came to know about the tense situation developing on that day at Model Town at 9.00 am in the morning.

I at once ordered to stop the Model Town operation after getting the report, he said. He maintained that he did not give instructions to the police or anyone else for use of force. Earlier on June 17, 2014, at least 14 PAT workers were killed and 90 others sustained injuries in clashes with Lahore police.PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri condemned the incident and demanded a formation of JIT to investigate the incident. Keeping in view PAT’s demand, Punjab government made JIT however; PAT leadership still continued rejecting the JIT and didn’t pay any visit to record their statements.
