Political jirga sends final draft on JC to PML-N, PTI
Online

ISLAMABAD: The political jirga which has been playing a mediator’s role between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over the formation of a judicial commission to probe the rigging allegations, has sent a final draft detailing the commission’s scope to both the parties.

The proposed draft was dispatched to the stakeholders after a meeting of the Political Jirga that was held at the residence of Rehman Malik and attended by Jamaat Islami (JI) chief Siraul Haq, National Party leader Hasil Bezinjo, GG Jamal and others. During the meeting, the Jirga also reviewed the letters written by the PML-N and PTI to incorporate their proposals into the final draft before dispatching it to both the parties for endorsement and approval. While talking to media persons after the meeting on Friday, Haq said that the bus of democracy was under constant threat in which all of them are travelling.

He said that democracy has suffered from inertia while its proponents were making hue and cry without any focus and purpose.

The JI chief said that the Jirga wanted the issue of Judicial Commission settled at the earliest so that a form probe into the alleged rigging could be carried out. Haq said that the common man wanted the politicians to solve their problems including the issue of inflation, which has been denting the downtrodden very hard. Malik said that the Jirga had solicited responses from both the parties whether or not they accepted its mandate and they highly appreciated its role, prompting it to prepare the final draft, containing proposals to make the way for the formation of the Judicial Commission.

He said that the Jirga wanted the issue of formation of the Judicial Commission to be settled in the next two days.
