Return of South Waziristan IDPs kicks off

D I KHAN: The process of return of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of South Waziristan agency kicked off on Monday with giving a send-off to 200 families on the first day at Kor Qilla Tank.
The political administration and Pakistan Army had made foolproof security arrangements on the occasion where media was briefed with regard to issues pertaining repatriation and rehabilitation of the displaced populace of South Waziristan. Besides the army, the political administration in collaboration with the FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) is facilitating the TDPs on their return.
A set of clothes, donated by the Punjab government, was also distributed among the IDPs. According to political administration, around 5,000 registered families of South Waziristan Agency will be rehabilitated to their native areas during this phase which will be completed by April 4. The government is also paying each family Rs35,000 for transportation and other expenditures. The administration would also provide ration to the displaced populace for six months.
FATA Disaster Management Authority Director Operation Farman Ali Khilji told APP on Monday that the process of repatriation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of South Waziristan Agency began on Monday and 5,000 families comprising of 45,000 persons completed registration for their return journey.
He said a registration point at Kor Qila in Tank has been set up from where the affectees would be repatriated to different localities of Serwekai and Sararogha area of South Waziristan.
