Delay in Saulat Mirza’s execution creating doubts: Khursheed Shah

LAHORE: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Sunday said that further delaying the hanging of death row convict Saulat Mirza was creating ‘doubts’ in people’s mind.

Speaking to media representatives at the PPP Punjab secretariat here, he said that the video confession by the condemned prisoner has gone in the favour of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

Shah said that all political parties decided with consensus to launch the targeted operation in Karachi in order to establish durable peace, adding that law and order situation in the city had improved following the police and Ranger’s operation.

“Sindh has become the most peaceful province of the country,” he said.

The PPP stalwart said Karachi was the economic hub of the country and that establishment of peace in the port city was the top priority of all the political parties.

Militant wings in the political parties could not be tolerated, the opposition leader underlined. He said Pakistan People’s Party was striving to uplift Sindh, adding law and order in interior Sindh had also improved.

The opposition leader, however, assailed the government for turning a blind eye on banned terrorist outfits. “Punjab government should overcome incidents like Youhanabad church attacks,” he added.

Commenting on the decision of forming a judicial commission to probe alleged poll rigging by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and ruling PML-N, he said Imran Khan (PTI Chairman) should now return to the Parliament.

Dismissing reports of rifts within the PPP, he said party’s patron-in-chief Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari would return to the country on April 4.
