Talks only way to settle Kashmir issue: Pakistan
*High Commissioner in New Delhi says high time for two countries to normalise relations and usher in a new era of peace and stability

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s High Commissioner in New Delhi Abdul Basit Monday said that Pakistan was keen to settle all issues with India, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, through dialogue.

He was speaking at a flag hoisting ceremony held at the Pakistan High Commission in India to celebrate the Pakistan Day, said a message received here from New Delhi. Referring to Pakistan-India relations, the High Commissioner underlined the importance of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s vision of `peace for development and development for peace.’ He said peace was in the mutual interest of Pakistan and India and it was now high time to normalize relations and usher in a new era of peace and stability, enabling the two countries to address the challenges facing the region and exploiting myriad of opportunities unleashed by globalisation.

Congratulating all Pakistan nationals in India on the auspicious occasion, he stated that the creation of Pakistan within seven years of the passage of the 1940 Lahore Resolution reflected the wisdom and tenacity of the founding fathers. Under the impeccable and sagacious leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the Muslims of the sub-continent realized their dream, he said and added, “It is now incumbent upon us to make Pakistan a truly welfare state as envisioned by the Quaid-e-Azam.” Earlier, Deputy High Commissioner Mansoor Ahmed Khan read out the messages of the President and the Prime Minister.

Students of the Pakistan High Commission School sang national songs and presented a tableau highlighting the struggle for the creation of Pakistan. At the end of the ceremony, Summiya Basit, wife of the high commissioner, distributed gifts among the students. Referring to Pakistan-India relations, the high commissioner underlined the importance of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s vision of “Peace for development and development for peace.” A seven-member delegation of Jammu and Kashmir separatist leaders attended the Pakistan National Day at its High Commission in Delhi. The delegation will also hold talks with Pakistani officials.
